iDS-9632NXI-M8/X Guide: AI Capacity, 8K Output and System Sizing
Capacity answer: The Hikvision iDS-9632NXI-M8/X accepts up to 32 IP camera inputs and lists 320 Mbps incoming bandwidth, 400 Mbps outgoing bandwidth and HDMI 1 output up to 8K at 30 Hz. It has two AI engines, with one algorithm selected per engine. Camera count, decoding, AI channels, playback and storage are separate limits and must be checked against the configured workload.

Core system specification
| Capacity area | Manufacturer listing | Planning implication |
|---|---|---|
| IP camera inputs | 32 channels, up to 32 MP input under specified modes | Input count does not equal decoding or AI capacity |
| Network bandwidth | 320 Mbps incoming; 400 Mbps outgoing | Include main/sub streams, clients, playback and export demand |
| Primary display | HDMI 1 up to 7680 × 4320 at 30 Hz | Confirm monitor, cable and output-mode interactions |
| AI architecture | Two AI engines; each engine runs one selected algorithm | Map algorithms and channel load before promising concurrency |
| Storage interfaces | Eight SATA interfaces | Drive support, RAID mode and usable capacity still need calculation |
Use Hikvision’s current iDS-9632NXI-M8/X datasheet dated 13 March 2026 as the specification source for the final bill of materials.
AI by NVR and AI by camera are different capacity pools
AI by NVR
The recorder analyzes received video using its internal engines. Listed functions include facial recognition, perimeter protection, video structuralization and AcuSearch, with capacities that vary by algorithm, stream resolution and selected mode. The current datasheet should be consulted for each exact line.
AI by camera
Compatible cameras can supply supported events or metadata such as Motion Detection 2.0, ANPR, people counting or other VCA functions. This can preserve recorder-side resources, but support depends on the camera model, firmware, recorder mode and event type.
Do not add the maximum number shown for every AI function and assume they can all run together. Document the selected algorithm per engine, the channels assigned, the input resolution and any mutually exclusive modes.
A capacity worksheet for this NVR
- Inputs: List every camera, resolution, frame rate, codec and main/sub-stream bitrate.
- Recording: Total the configured incoming streams and retain safety capacity for variance and additions.
- Display: Define the largest simultaneous live-view layout and its resolution.
- Playback: Define investigator and operator concurrency separately from live viewing.
- AI: Assign every channel to AI by NVR, AI by camera or no analytics, then map it to one of the two engine modes.
- Storage: Calculate measured bitrate × recording hours × retention days, then apply filesystem, RAID and contingency overhead.
- Network: Add remote clients, central management, export and recovery traffic to the outgoing-load plan.
Example workload map
This is a planning illustration, not a promised configuration. Validate the final combination against the current datasheet and a representative test.
| Camera group | Required function | Processing location | Acceptance test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perimeter cameras | Person/vehicle event verification | Selected NVR engine or supported camera | Day/night nuisance and missed-event test |
| Entrances | Face-related search or comparison where lawful | Selected NVR engine and approved database | Consent/policy, capacity and representative accuracy test |
| General overview | Continuous recording and fast object search | Recording plus supported AcuSearch mode | Search completion and result-review test |
| Vehicle lanes | ANPR from compatible cameras | Camera-generated metadata | Plate conditions, event receipt and retrieval test |
8K output is a display feature, not an 8K system guarantee
HDMI 1 can output 8K at 30 Hz, but the useful display result also depends on the monitor, cable path, selected output mode, decoded streams and layout. The second HDMI output may have a reduced maximum when HDMI 1 is set to 8K, so check the output footnotes in the current datasheet.
Acceptance should include the exact monitor layout, live view, playback, UI responsiveness and export workflow. A high display resolution does not increase source-camera detail.
Fit and non-fit
Potential fit
- Projects needing up to 32 IP inputs with high recorder and client bandwidth
- Systems that can benefit from carefully allocated recorder-side AI functions
- Control rooms requiring high-resolution local display and multiple storage bays
Reconsider or redesign when
- The required AI combination exceeds the two-engine concurrency model
- The bitrate, playback or decoding plan is based only on the 32-channel label
- Retention cannot fit the supported drive and RAID design
- The project expects unspecified accuracy percentages or autonomous decision-making
Acceptance test before handover
- Record every configured camera at target bitrate for a representative load window.
- Open the maximum required live-view and playback layouts.
- Run the selected AI engines together and confirm channel assignment.
- Test search, evidence export, permissions and audit logs.
- Verify drive health, RAID/rebuild behavior if used, alerts and retention.
- Interrupt an approved network path and confirm recovery and time synchronization.
- Record firmware, configuration backup and rollback procedure.
The datasheet lists ONVIF Profile S/G support. Confirm the exact product and required function through the ONVIF conformant product database, then test it with the proposed camera firmware.
