HIKD / PROJECT SUPPORT

Four questions before a model number.

Write down what the system must do, where it will operate, how footage or events will be retained, and which existing devices it must work with. These requirements are more useful than resolution alone.

01 / TASK

What must you see or control?

Separate a broad overview from face detail, vehicle detail or a specific door event. Define the target area and working distance before narrowing the lens and camera type.

02 / ENVIRONMENT

What changes on site?

Consider daytime backlight, night lighting, reflections, weather exposure and mounting access. Check the actual model ratings and power arrangements against the installation.

03 / SYSTEM

What must work together?

Review recorder channels and bandwidth, PoE budget, storage, client software and supported functions. Matching connector types or protocol names alone does not establish complete compatibility.

HIKD / 02

Choose an equipment route.

Each route opens a verified product category. Use the planning notes to build a shortlist; confirm the exact device, accessories and integration requirements before purchase.

01

Fixed-view coverage

For entrances, corridors and defined viewing areas. Start with the scene width, target distance and night conditions.

02

Steered viewing

For operator-directed viewing and preset positions. Check the patrol workflow and what must remain covered while the camera turns.

03

Recording and retention

For channel capacity, recording bandwidth and storage planning. Check the exact supported camera functions and drive limits.

04

Door access

For reader, controller, credential, lock and exit requirements. Plan each door as a complete set of connected components.

FAQ

Practical questions

Is a higher megapixel count always the better choice?

No. Lens, target distance, lighting, exposure and compression also affect the useful detail in a scene. Define the task and review the complete imaging configuration.

Can I mix brands in one system?

Some functions may interoperate, but feature support varies by model, firmware and platform. Confirm the required recording, event and management functions specifically.
