Model reference guide

How to compare similar camera and NVR model numbers

A short model code can hide important differences. Treat the full reference, firmware branch and intended region as part of the product specification rather than assuming two visually similar devices are interchangeable.

Use the model code as a technical checklist

Search the full reference first

Copy the complete code from the device label, quotation or project schedule. Keep punctuation and suffixes where possible. Searching only the base family can mix products with different lenses, storage options, wireless functions, language packs or regional approvals.

Identify the product family

Separate the equipment type before comparing models: network camera, analog camera, PTZ, NVR, access control, thermal, traffic or remote-site system. This prevents a visually similar code from sending the project into the wrong technical family.

Check system compatibility

For cameras and recorders, verify protocol, firmware, codec, resolution, incoming bandwidth, PoE budget, event support and channel capacity. Basic video appearing on screen does not prove that analytics, audio, PTZ control or smart search will work.

Plan replacements carefully

When an exact model is unavailable, define the functions that must be preserved before choosing an alternative. Match the installation, field of view, power, network, storage, environmental rating and required events instead of replacing by resolution alone.

Details to verify before requesting a quote

Factor What to check Why it matters
Complete code Base number, punctuation and every suffix Distinguishes regional, lens, storage, connectivity and language variants.
Imaging Resolution, sensor, lens, illumination and target distance Determines whether the scene and evidence requirement can be met.
System fit Protocol, firmware, codec, events, channels and bandwidth Prevents partial compatibility and recorder capacity problems.
Installation Housing, mounting, power, temperature and environmental rating Confirms that the selected device fits the physical site.
Commercial check Quantity, destination, availability, lead time and accessories Produces a quote that matches the complete deployment rather than one device.

Model search questions

Why is the complete suffix important?

Suffixes can identify lens, storage, wireless, region, language or hardware differences. Similar base numbers are not automatically interchangeable.

What if the exact model is not listed?

Send the complete model reference, required quantity, destination and the function it must perform so availability and a suitable alternative can be checked.

Can two models be compared by megapixels alone?

No. Lens, sensor, low-light performance, codec, analytics, power, housing and recorder support can matter as much as resolution.

Does firmware affect compatibility?

Yes. Firmware can change protocol behavior, event support, authentication and integration. Check the recommended branch for both devices.

What information improves quote accuracy?

Provide full model codes, quantities, destination, required accessories and any compatibility or certification requirements.

Product availability, regional suffixes and supported features can change. The exact product page and matching technical documentation should take priority over a family-level summary.
